Eight Reflections Plus
Figure R8plusA:
Figure R8plusB:
Press the Eight Reflections Plus menu item to construct tiles using the procedure outlined in figures R8plusA and R8plusB. Assume that the transparent portal is at the bottom left corner of the Silicon Mirror window and the Reflecting Glass, Single Tile View, and Fold 1 menu items are selected. This case is unlike all the other reflection modes. It has all the properties of the eight reflection case with the added wrinkle of repeatedly reflecting the portal image towards an adjacent corner. This is hard to describe in text, but I hope that you can see what is going on in the figure R8plusA. The iterative process of reflecting towards the corner stops when the fold line gets to within 15 pixels of the corner.
Nerd alert: In the eight reflections plus mode, the Silicon Mirror creates tiles that are members of the ‘p4m’ crystallographic wallpaper group. Note the that quasi symmetry that distinguishes the eight from the eight plus reflections mode is not addressed in the crystallographic wallpaper classifications, so both modes correspond to the same crystallographic classification.
